Failure Modes Effect and Criticality Analysis (FMECA)

FMEA/FMECA is the driving analysis in any process; irrespective of the process. If you don't know how or why the process will fail, you can't sustain it.

Overview

Failure Mode Effects Criticality Analysis (FMECA)is a widely used practice to study possible failure modes of a process or product, and the consequences of those failures. The benefit of the Failure Mode Effects Criticality Analysis (FMECA) is to provide a useful understanding and comprehensive catalogue of the way equipment or processes will fail and to feed those results into other disciplines such as design improvement, process improvement, maintenance planning and support, reliability centred maintenance, downtime reduction, loss elimination studies, prioritize action plans, integrated logistics support, etc.

In fact, it is not possible to develop maintenance strategies and plans without performing a FMECA. For example, an RCM without a rigorous FMECA is not a good RCM.

Often, it is more useful to perform a Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) before conducting the Criticality Analysis (CA) phase.

The FMECA can be performed to comply with either military or commercial specifications.

FMECA Progam Scope

We can deliver this program as either the analytical work, or as a comprehensive training course. In either case the scope of work is as follows.

  • Through life concept development
  • Understanding the system
  • Selection of FMECA model and processes
  • The FMECA Plan
  • What are the failure modes
  • What are the effects of the failure modes
  • How are the failure modes studied and resolved
